Meet Niels and Goedele at IAH 2026

Our colleagues Niels Van Pute and Goedele Verreydt will represent iFLUX at IAH 2026, the World Groundwater Congress, in Budapest, Hungary from September 14 to 18.

• Niels will present "Continuous in situ groundwater flux monitoring in dynamic aquifer systems: validation of the iFLUX sensor." 
• Goedele Verreydt will speak on “An innovative vertical flux sensor for hyporheic exchange monitoring” 

IAH 2026 is the 53rd World Groundwater Congress of the International Association of Hydrogeologists (IAH), hosted this year by the Hungarian National Chapter. The congress brings together hydrogeologists, researchers and practitioners from around the world to discuss groundwater as a multi-resource, essential for drinking water, geothermal energy, ecosystems and climate adaptation. The program spans four days of scientific sessions plus a field trip, covering topics from karst hydrogeology and managed aquifer recharge to big data, monitoring and groundwater governance.

Why this event matters

Budapest has a distinct relationship with groundwater. The Danube supplies drinking water to 1.8 million people through riverbank filtration, and the city's thermal springs and karst landscape are shaped by naturally discharging groundwater. That context makes IAH 2026 a fitting place to discuss how monitoring keeps pace with dynamic aquifer systems.
